Sweater Pattern

Back

Using 2.5 mm (US 1.5) needles cast on 137(141:149:157) sts.
Row 1 (WS): 1 selvedge st, *k1, p1, rep from * to last 2 sts, k1, 1 selvedge st. ** Work in 1x1 rib for further 4 rows, ending with RS facing for next row. Change to 2.75 mm (US 2) needles. Beg with a K row and cont in st st. Work straight until back meas 5(6:7:8) cm [2(2½.2¾:3 in], ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape sides (RS): dec 1 st on each side within selvedge st. Rep dec on every foll 12th row 5(9:9:5) times more, then on 5(0:0:5) foll 10th rows = 115(121:129:135) sts.
At the same time when back meas 9(10:11:12) cm [3½(4:4¼:4¾ in], ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row eyelet row (RS): 1 selvedge st, k4(6:10:3), yo, k2tog, * k9, yo, k2tog, rep from * to last 5(7:11:4) sts, k4(6:10:3), 1 selvedge st. Cont in st st. At the same time when back meas 30(31:32:33) cm [11¾ (12¼:12½:13 in], ending with RS facing for next row.
V-Pattern (1x1 rib)
1st row RS: place marker on centre st, k to centre st, p1, k to end.
2nd row WS: p to centre st, k1, p to end.
3rd row RS: k to 2 st rem to centre st, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k to end.
4th row WS: p to 2 st rem to centre st, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p to end.
Cont expand pattern with 2 sts on both sides of centre on foll alt row until all sts are in rib, then cont work in 1x1 rib throughout.

Shape armhole
Keeping patt correct cast off 5(6:8:9) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Next row (RS) dec: 1 selvedge st, k1, k2 tog, knit until 4 sts rem, skpo, k1, 1 selvedge st. Rep dec on 3(3:4:4) foll 4th rows = 97(101:103:107) sts. Cont straight until armhole meas 15(15:16:16) cm [6 (6:6¼:6¼) in], ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape neck
Next row (RS): rib 26(27:27:28) sts and turn, leaving rem sts on holder. Work each side of neck separately.
Dec 1 st within selvedge st (as st show) at neckedge of next 12 rows = 14(15:15:16) sts. Work until armholes meas 19(19:20:20) cm [7½(7½:8:8 in], end with yarn at armhole edge, slip sts onto holder. With RS facing, rejoin yarn to rem sts, cast off centre 45(47:49:51) sts in rib, rib to end. Complete to match first side, reversing shapings.

Front

Using 2.5 mm (US 1.5) needles cast on 137(141:149:157) sts.
Row 1 (WS): 1 selvedge st, *p1, k1, rep from * to last 2 sts, p1, 1 selvedge st. Work as given for back from **.

Making Up

Knit shoulders tog.
Place back and front RS facing. Place sts on larger needles. Beg at armhole and use a third larger needle to k1 st from each needle together casting off simultaneously. Sew side seams within selvedge st. Block the garment to correct measurements, stretching v-pattern, cover with a damp cloth and let dry.
Make I-Cord: approx 160 cm [63 in], using a Knitting Mill. Pull through eyelet row.
