By: Colleen Barth from Designs by Colleen

This simple knitted purse will soon become one of your favorite knitting patterns. Complete with an i-cord drawstring, this bag knits up quickly and makes a great companion for shopping.  Small enough to hold all your must-have necessities, this knit purse is fashionable and functional and prevents you from having to carry your heavy purse with you all over the mall.  Just grab what you need and use this sweet little knit bag to keep track of all your items.  Make one for your daughter or even your bridesmaids if you're a knitting bride.

Knitting Needle Size15 or 10 mm

Yarn Weight(5) Bulky/Chunky (12-15 stitches for 4 inches)

Materials:

  • Lion Brand Yarn (Black) chunky ( I used 1 skein)
  • U.S. Size 15 needle

Instructions:

Cast on 26 stitches

Knit 2 rows in garter st.

Next row:  Knit 2, YO, K2tog, across row: this is your eyelet row for the drawstring.  Then proceed with:
R1 -  k2 * slip 1 purlwise  , K1, YO, PSSO over both  the Knit st. and YO,  then K2, repeat from * across row

R2 -  PURL

Repeat row 1 & 2  8 more times until desired length is reached.
Next row:   Knit 2, YO, K2tog, across row,
Knit 2 more rows and Bind Off.

With WS together fold the piece in half and sew sides together.
I then made an I_Cord ( CO 3 stitches and make I-cord)  and used it for my drawstring.   Weave the I-Cord thru the eyelet openings and draw tight.
