  • Needles: US 6 / 4.0mm or size to obtain gauge
  • Stitch markers

Bust (closed): 34 (38 ½, 42, 46 ½)”
Length: 24 (24 ½, 25, 26)”


Gauge:
22 sts and 29 rows = 4” in St st using size 6 (4.0mm) needles. Please take the time to check gauge.


Notes:
This vest is knit bottom up. Stitches used are garter stitch (knit every side) and Stockinette stitch (knit all sts RS, purl all sts WS.)


VEST

BACK

CO 94 (106, 116, 128) sts. Beginning with a knit row, work in St st until piece measures 15” from CO edge, ending with RS facing.
Armhole and Back Shaping
Bind off 8 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 7 sts at beg of next 2 rows, ending with RS facing – 48 (60, 70, 82) sts. Placing markers at each end of first and last row, work 8 rows even.
Increase 1 st at each end of next and every following 4th row 9 (9, 9, 10) times – 68 (80, 90, 102) sts. Work even until armhole measures 9 (9 ½, 10, 11)”, ending with RS facing. Bind off all sts.

LEFT FRONT
CO 52 (58, 63, 69) sts. Starting with a knit row, work in St st until piece measures 15” from CO edge, ending with RS facing.
Armhole Shaping
Bind off 5 (5, 6, 7) sts at beg of next row. Work 1 row even. Dec 1 st at beg of next and every RS row 8 (9, 9, 10) more times – 38 (43, 47, 51) sts. Work even until armhole measures 9 (9 ½, 10, 11)”, ending with RS facing.
Shoulder and Collar Extension
Bind off 17 (22, 26, 30) sts (for shoulder), knit to end of row – 21 sts rem for collar extension. Work a further 3 (3 ¼, 3 ½, 3 ¾)”, ending with RS facing. Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT
Work as given for Left Front, reversing shaping.

FINISHING
Block pieces to finished measurements. Sew shoulder seams. Join seam at center back of neck extension and sew evenly to back neck opening. Sew side seams.

BACK TIE
CO 7 sts. Working in garter st until piece measures 4 ½ (4 ½, 5 ½, 6)”. Bind off.
Wrap back tie around back of vest as pictured. Sew cast on and bound off edges together.
