Summer Mesh Top

Perfect for pool days and bonfires at the beach, the Summer Mesh Top is the ultimate carefree summer knit. This breathable, knit top pattern has a relaxed fit, so it's a great option for a swim suit cover up as well as a basic pullover for casual days. Featuring a simple lace pattern, the Summer Mesh Top is worked in one piece from front to back.

Knitting Needle Size7 or 4.5 mm, 8 or 5 mm, Circular Knitting Needles

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

  • Satin (100 g/3.5 oz;182 m/200 yds): Foliage (04246)
  • Sizes 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) and 5 mm (U.S. 8) circular knitting needles 24" [61 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge.

 

Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] with larger needle in stocking stitch.

Note: Top is worked in one piece from Front to Back. Beg at lower edge of Front, with larger circular needle, cast on 82 (92-100-110-128-146) sts. Do not join.


1st row: (RS). K1. *K1tbl. P1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
2nd row: K1. *K1. P1tbl. Rep from * to last st. K1. Rep last 2 rows 3 times more, inc 1 (0-1-0-0-0) st at center of last row. 83 (92-101-110-128-146) sts.

Proceed in Mesh Pat as follows:
1st row:(RS). K1. *K2tog. yo. K1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
2nd row: Purl.
3rd row:K1. *yo. K1. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1.
4th row: Purl.
Rep last 4 rows for pat until work from beg measures 11 (11-11-1111½;-12-12)” [28 (28-28-29-30.5-30.5) cm], ending with a RS row.

Shape sleeves: Next row:(WS). Cast on 25 sts. Purl to end of row.
Next row:Cast on 25 sts. (K1. P1) twice. Pat to last 4 sts. (P1. K1) twice. 133 (142-151-160-178-196) sts.
Next row: (K1. P1) twice. Pat to last 4 sts. (P1. K1) twice.
Rep last row, until work from beg measures 19 19 (19½-20-20½-21½-22)” [48 (49.5-51-52-54.5-56)cm], ending with a RS row.

Divide for neck opening: Next row:(WS). Pat across first 44 (47-53-56-65-74) sts. Leave these sts on spare needle (Right Sleeve). Cast off next 45 (48-45-48-48-48) sts. Pat across last 44 (47-53-56-65-74) sts (Left Sleeve).

Left Neck: Next row:(RS). (K1. P1) twice. Pat to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1.
Next row:Pat to last 4 sts. (P1. K1) twice.
Rep last 2 rows 8 times more. 35 (38-44-47-56-65) sts.
Work 8 rows even in pat, keeping cont of rib sts.
Next row:(RS). (K1. P1) twice. Pat to last 2 sts. M1. K1.
Next row:Pat to last 4 sts. (K1. P1) twice.

Break yarn. Slip these 44 (47-53-56-65-74) sts onto a spare needle.

Shape sleeves: Next 2 rows:Cast off 25 sts. Pat to end of row. 83 (92-101-110-128-146) sts at end of 2nd row.
Cont even in pat until work from last cast off row measures 11 (11-11-11½-12-12)” [28 (28-28-29-30.5-30.5) cm], ending with a RS row.
Next row:(WS). Purl, dec 1 (0-1-0-0-0) st at center of row. 82 (92-100-110-128-146) sts.

Rep last 2 rows twice more, then rep 1st row once.
Cast off (WS).

Sew side and sleeve seams.
Neck edging:With smaller circular needle and RS facing, beg at center back, pick up and knit 122 (124-122-124-124-124) sts evenly around Neck edge. Join in rnd, placing marker on first st.
Next rnd:*K1tbl. P1. Rep from * around.
Rep last rnd 3 times more.
