Knitting Needle Size10 or 6 mm, 7 or 4.5 mm, 8 or 5 mm, Circular Knitting Needles, Double-Pointed Knitting Needles (DPNs)

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Gauge18 sts and 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

Materials List

  • Patons® VenusTM (1.75 oz/50 g; 119 yds/109 m): Chili Pepper (10704) 10, 11, 12 balls
  • Sizes U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) and U.S. 8 (5 mm) circular knitting needles 36" [90 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • 2 Stitch markers.
  • Pair of size U.S. 10 (6 mm) double-pointed needles for I-cord.

Pattern

Extra-Small/Medium: 28-38” [71-96.5 cm]
Large/Extra-Large: 40-46” [101.5-106.5 cm]
2/5 Extra-Large: 48-62” [122-157.5 cm]

Instructions: 
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.

BACK

**With smaller needle, cast on 116 (130-144) sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows.
Knit 5 rows, noting 1st row is WS.

Change to larger needle and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd row: K4. Purl to last 4 sts. K4.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 17 (17-18) ” [43 (43-45.5) cm], ending on a WS row. Place markers at each end of last row.

Shape sleeves:
1st row:
 (RS). Cast on 22 sts. Knit to end of row. 138 (152-166) sts.
2nd row: Cast on 22 sts. Purl to end of row. 160 (174-188) sts.
3rd row: Knit.
4th row: K4. Purl to last 4 sts. K4.**  
Rep last 2 rows until work from last cast on row measures 13 (13-14) ” [33 (33-35.5) cm], ending on a WS row. Cast off.

FRONT

Work from ** to ** as given for Back. 160 (174-188) sts.

Next row: (RS). Knit.
Next row: K4. P72 (79-86). K8. P72 (79-86). K4.
Rep last 2 rows twice more.

Divide for front slit:
Left Front:
1st row:
 (RS). K80 (87-94). Turn.
Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
2nd row: K4. Purl to last 4 sts. K4.
3rd row: Knit.
Rep last 2 rows until work from last cast on row measures 13 (13-14) ” [33 (33-35.5) cm], ending on a WS row. Cast off.
Right Front: With RS facing, join yarn to rem 80 (87-94) sts on spare needle and work as given for Left Front.

I-cord Belt: With pair of double-pointed needles, cast on 5 sts. *K5. Do not turn. Slide work to opposite end of needle. Rep from * until Belt measures 60 (70-80) ” [152.5 (178-203.5) cm]. Cast off.

FINISHING

Pin garment pieces to measurements and cover with damp cloth leaving cloth to dry.

Mark neck 8 (9-10) ” [20.5 (23-25.5) cm] wide at center of foundation row of Back. Sew front and back across shoulder seams to neck markers.

Sew sleeve seams only. Try on Cover-up. Thread I-Cord Belt through Back and
Front at sides. Tie at Front.
