Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a beginner just learning how to knit, sometimes you just want a simple pattern you can work through all at once. For those times when speed is of the essence, we bring you the One Sitting Scarf. You'll fly through this knit scarf pattern in no time, thanks to its use of large needles and super-bulky yarn. The super-simple basket weave design is easy to remember and will look great in any modern wardrobe. Autumn is upon us, so grab your needles and get off to the races.

Knitting Needle Size19 or 15 mm

Yarn Weight(6) Super Bulky/Super Chunky (4-11 stitches for 4 inches)

Gauge6 stitches, 10 rows, 4 inches. basket weave pattern

Materials:

  • RED HEART Grande: 511 Wintergreen - 2 balls
  • Susan Bates Knitting Needles: 15mm [US 19]
  • Susan Bates Crochet Hook: 6.5mm [US K-10.5] (for weaving in ends and making fringe)
  • Yarn needle

 

 

Gauge:

6 sts = 4” (10 cm); 10 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Basketweave pattern. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

 

 

Measurements:

Scarf measures 6 x 58” (15 x 147.5 cm), not including fringe.

 

 

Abbreviations:

k = knit
p = purl
st(s) = stitch(es)

 

 

Instructions:

Scarf:
Cast on 9 sts.
Knit 1 row.

Row 1 (right side): K3, p3, k3.
Row 2: P3, k3, p3.
Rows 3 and 4: Repeat Rows 1 and 2.
Row 5: P3, k3, p3.
Row 6: K3, p3, k3.
Rows 7 and 8: Repeat Rows 5 and 6.

Repeat Rows 1–8 until piece measures about 58” (147.5 cm) from beginning.
Bind off loosely.

Finishing:
Use crochet hook to weave in ends.

Fringe:
Cut 16 strands of yarn, each 12” (30.5 cm) long. Hold 2 strands together and fold in half.
Insert crochet hook in one short edge of scarf and place fold on hook. Draw fold through edge, forming a loop. Thread ends of strands through loop and pull to tighten fringe.
Repeat this process to attach 4 fringes evenly spaced across each short edge of scarf. Trim to even.
Tie the ends of the fringe strands to prevent fraying.
