Finished SizePoncho measures 25” [63.5 cm] long x 34” [86 cm] circumference. Because of the loose nature of the stitch, poncho will stretch to fit a variety of sizes.

  • US size 50 [25mm] knitting needles
  • RED HEART® Boutique Irresistible™, 4 balls of 7952 Enchanting

Pattern Stitches

  1. Wrapped Stitch: Insert right needle as if to knit, wrap yarn around both needles, then in between needles and complete knit st as usual. This will create an elongated open stitch.

  2. Lacey Bind Off: K2, *slip 2 worked sts back to left needle and k2tog through back loop, k1; repeat from *.

Knit Poncho Pattern

The poncho body is worked sideways from the center of the front, around the back, to the center of the opposite front. Then stitches are picked up along one side edge for the neckband. 

  1. Cast on 12 sts. 

  2. Row 1 (Right Side): Work Wrapped st across.

  3. Row 2: Purl.

  4. Repeat Rows 1-2 until piece measures 34” [86 cm] from beginning, end with a Row 2 as last row worked. Bind off. 

  5. Finishing the Neckband: with right side facing, pick up and knit 14 sts evenly spaced along one side edge. Work in Stockinette st for 4” [10 cm]. Bind off loosely using Lacey Bind Off, leaving a long tail. Using long tail, sew side edges of Neckband and half of ends of Poncho together, leaving lower 8” [20.5 cm] unsewn. Weave in ends. 

  6. Finishing Pattern: Using long tail, sew side edges of Neckband and half of ends of Poncho together, leaving lower 8” [20.5 cm] unsewn. Weave in ends.
