Weekend Winter Hat

No matter what you like to do in the winter, the Weekend Winter Hat will be able to keep up with you. The dropping temperature won't stop you when you are wearing this cute, warm hat. A simple color work pattern gives this knit hat pattern a bit of life and provides a second layer of warmth. Stranding your second color of yarn along the back of your work will ensure that you won't be feeling a chill this winter.

Knitting Needle Size7 or 4.5 mm, 8 or 5 mm

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

  • Bernat Super Value (197 g/7 oz; 389 m/426 yds)
    • Main Color (MC) 1 ball Peony Pink (53417)
    • Contrast A 1 ball Oatmeal (53010)
  • Sizes 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) and 5 mm (U.S. 8) circular knitting needles 16" [40.5 cm] long
  • Set of four size 5 mm (U.S. 8) double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Stitch marker


Gauge
18 sts and 24 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st with larger needles.


INSTRUCTIONS

Stitch Chart


With smaller needle and MC, cast on 86 (94) sts. Join in rnd, placing marker on first st.
1st rnd: *K1tbl. P1. Rep from * around. Break MC. Join A.
With A, rep last rnd (K1tbl. P1) ribbing for 3" [7.5 cm].

Change to larger needle.
Next rnd: K3 (2). Inc1. *K19 (8). Inc1. Rep from * to last 3 (2) sts. K3 (2). 90 (104) sts.

Work rnds 1 to 6 of Chart I, reading rnds from right to left, noting 6 st rep will be worked 15 times.
Rep rnds 1 to 6 of Chart I until Hat from beg measures approx 7½" [19 cm].

Shape crown: Work rnds 7 to 13 of Chart I, switching to larger set of double-pointed needles when appropriate. 30 sts rem. Break yarn, leaving a long end. Draw end tightly
through rem loops and fasten securely.
