Knitting Needle Size10.5 or 6.5 mm, Circular Knitting Needles

Yarn Weight(5) Bulky/Chunky (12-15 stitches for 4 inches)

Gauge15 sts x 24 rows in pattern = 4” (10 cm) diameter. For best fit, always check your gauge.

Finished SizeAdult Small: 20” (51 cm) hat circumference, 8” (20.5 cm) length.

Materials List

  • Bernat Maker Home Dec (72% cotton/28% nylon, 8.8 oz/250 g/317 yd/290 m) – 1 skein each in 11019 Pebble Beach, or approximately 317yd (290 m) in any bulky weight, cotton blend yarn.
  • US Size 10.5/6.5 mm 40” (100 cm) circular knitting needles (or set of DPNs, for small circumference knitting in the round), or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Clover Pom-Pom Maker – Extra Large (optional)

Beanie

Starting at brim, CO 76 sts.
Set Up Row: K across, pm, join and begin working in the round, being careful not to twist.
Rnd 1: *K2, p2; rep from * around.
Rnd 2: K around.
Rep Rnds 1 & 2 until hat measures approximately 7” (18 cm) from brim.

Decrease towards crown

Rnd 3: K2tog, p2tog, *k2tog, p2, k2, p2; rep from * around. (65 sts)
Rnd 4: K2, *k1, k2tog, k4; rep from * around. (56 sts)
Rnd 5: K1, p1, *k1, p1, k2tog, p2; rep from * around. (47 sts)
Rnd 6: K2, *k3, k2tog; rep from * around. (38 sts)
Rnd 7: K1, p1, *k2tog, k1, p1; rep from * around. (29 sts)
Rnd 8: K2, *k1, k2tog; rep from * around. (20 sts)
Rnd 9: K2tog around. (10 sts)

Finishing

Fasten off with long yarn tail (approximately 12”/30.5 cm). Thread yarn tail through yarn needle. Pull yarn tail firmly through remaining stitches several times, drawing tightly to close crown. Remove sts from needles. With yarn needle, weave in ends on inside of hat.
Follow manufacturer’s instructions to create pom pom using pom-pom maker.
With yarn needle and yarn tails from tying pom pom, secure pom pom to hat by weaving yarn tails in on inside of hat. Weave in remaining ends and fasten off.
