There is always so much joy when a new child enters the family. Welcome your newest addition home by learning how to knit a blanket designed with baby in mind. The Coziest Cables Blankie features thick cables lining the front for a unique look you won't find anywhere else. If you don't have a baby to knit for at the moment, you can still cast on this beautiful knitted blankets. After all, everyone can appreciate the cuddly goodness of a warm and toasty blanket- especially when it's as cozy as this one!

Knitting Needle Size11 or 8 mm

Yarn Weight(6) Super Bulky/Super Chunky (4-11 stitches for 4 inches)

Gauge1 stitches, 2 rows, 3 inches. stockinette stitch

Materials:

  • Bernat® Baby Blanket™ (3.5 oz/100 g; 85 yds/78 m) Baby Denim (03115) - 8 balls
  • Size U.S. 11 (8 mm) circular knitting needle 36" [90 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Cable needle
     

GAUGE: 8 sts and 13 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking stitch.

 

Measurements: Approx 36" x 48" [91.5 x 122 cm]

Approx = Approximately
Beg = Beginning
C10F = Slip next 5 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. K5, then K5 from cable needle.
T6B = Slip next stitch onto cable needle and leave at back of work. K5, then P1 from cable needle.
T6F = Slip next 5 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work. P1, then K5 from cable needle.

Instructions:
Cast on 70 sts. Do not join. Working back and forth in rows, proceed as follows:
Knit 5 rows (garter st), noting first row is WS, inc 8 sts evenly across last row. 78 sts.

Proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (RS). K4. P6. (Work 1st row of Cable Panel Pat. P8) twice. Work 1st row of Cable Panel Pat. P6. K4.
2nd row: K10. (Work 2nd row of Cable Panel Pat. K8) twice. Work 2nd row of Cable Panel Pat. K10.
3rd row: K4. P6. (Work 3rd row of Cable Panel Pat. P8) twice. Work 3rd row of Cable Panel Pat. P6. K4.
4th row: K10. (Work 4th row of Cable Panel Pat. K8) twice. Work 4th row of Cable Panel Pat. K10.
Cable Panel Pat is now in position. Keeping cont of Cable Panel Pat, cont as established until work from beg measures approx 46" [117 cm], ending on 21st row of Cable Panel Pat.

Next row: (WS). Knit, dec 8 sts evenly across. 70 sts.
