Baby's Quilted Knit Blanket

By: Martin Storey for knitrowan.com

This Baby's Quilted Knit Blanket is thick, cozy, and absolutely perfect for babies during the colder months. The lovely white and blue coloring is reminiscent of a clear spring sky, which is just the kind of energy you want in the nursery. Worked in a series of squares that are then knit together, you also get the added fun of seeing a bunch of little knit pieces come together to create something bigger. Have those dear to you help you knit some squares so your baby has a little bit of everyone's love in his first blanket.

Using photograph as a guide, sew squares together in a checkerboard style to make two rectangles, each 4 squares by 5 squares. Sew these rectangles together along 3 sides. Insert wadding inside knitted pieces and close 4th side. Stitching through all layers, sew a button onto centre of each square. Using yarn A and stitching through all layers, oversew along all seams on top of blanket. Using yarn B, oversew over all previous oversewing to form 2 colour cross st.
