Notes1. These super simple scrubby dish cloths are worked in Garter stitch (knit every row), changing color every two rows to form stripes.
2. When changing color, do not cut old yarn color until instructed. Carry color not in use loosely up side of piece until next needed.

Knitting Needle Size8 or 5 mm

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Gauge18 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 27 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Garter stitch (knit every row). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge given.

Finished SizeScrubby measures about 6 x 6” [15 x 15 cm].

  • Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 5mm [US 8]

Instructions

Dish Cloth I

With A, cast on 27 sts.
Row 1: With A, knit.
Join B.
Drop, but do not cut A. Carry color not in use loosely up side of piece. Rows 2 and 3: With B, knit.
Drop, but do not cut B.
Rows 4 and 5: With A, knit.
Rows 6–37: Repeat Rows 2–5 eight more times. Notes: The last row you work will be a 2nd row worked with A. You will have a total of nineteen stripes from beginning: ten A-colored stripes and nine B-colored stripes. Drop, but do not cut A.
Rows 38 and 39: With B, knit.
Cut B, leaving a tail to weave in later.
Row 40: With A, knit.
With A, bind off loosely.

Dish Cloth II

Make same as Dish Cloth I, reversing the yarn colors.

Finishing

Weave in ends.
