I Don't Give a Hoot Knit Dishcloth

We don't clean pots, pans and plates because we like it, we do it because we have to. Wouldn't it be nice to have an I Don't Give a Hoot Knit Dishcloth by your side while you work through this mind-numbing task? Luckily, just about anyone can. This easy knit dishcloth pattern can by made by even beginner knitters, as it uses only the knit stitch and a couple of simple special stitches that anyone can learn. Kids especially will love this knit dishcloth. They might even want to help with the dishes! Red Heart's newest Scrubby yarn in four different colors is used to knit this adorable dishcloth.
 

Knitting Needle Size8 or 5 mm

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Gauge1 stitches, 2 rows, 3 inches. stockinette stitch

Materials:

  • RED HEART® Scrubby™
    • 905 Cherry (A) - 1 ball
    • 0010 Coconut (B) - 1 ball
    • 0561 Grape (C) - 1 ball
    • 0241 Duckie (D) - 1 ball
  • Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 5mm [US 8]
  • Yarn needle

 

Abbreviations:

A, B, C = Color A, Color B, Color C, etc

k = Knit

K2tog = Knit next 2 sts together

p = Purl

* or ** = repeat whatever follows the * or ** as indicated.

 

Gauge: Gauge is not critical for this project.

 

Special Stitch:

kfb (Knit into front and back) = Knit next st but do not remove from needle, knit into back loop of same st and remove from needle.

 

Instructions

 

Square

With A, cast on 29 sts.

Row 1: P1, *k3, p1; repeat from * across.

Row 2: K2, *p1, k3, repeat from * to last 2 sts, p1, k2.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 7 1/2" (19 cm). Bind off loosely.

 

Eye (make 2)

With B, cast on 6 sts.

Row 1: Kfb in each st - 12 sts.

Row 2: Knit.

Row 3: *K1, kfb; repeat from * across - 18 sts.

Row 4: Knit.

Row 5: *K2, kfb; repeat from * across - 24 sts.

Row 6: Knit.

Row 7: *K3, kfb; repeat from * across - 30 sts.

Row 8: Knit.

Row 9: *K4, kfb; repeat from * across - 36 sts. Bind off loosely.

Shape into a circle and seam across radius.

With C, embroider satin st pupils in center.

Using photograph as a guide, sew in place.

 

Beak

With D, cast on 8 sts.

Rows 1 and 2: Knit.

Row 3: K2tog, k4, k2tog - 6 sts.

Rows 4 and 5: Knit.

Row 6: K2tog, k2, k2tog - 4 sts.

Rows 7 and 8: Knit.

Row 9: [K2tog] twice - 2 sts.

Row 10: K2tog - 1 st. Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Center beak between eyes and sew in place.

 

Finishing

Weave in ends.
