Lightning Fast Lattice Cowl

When the winter threatens to blow down your door, you won't want to venture out without covering up from head to toe. Yarn Weight(5) Bulky/Chunky (12-15 stitches for 4 inches)

Gauge1 stitches, 2 rows, 3 inches. stockinette stitch

Materials:

  • Classic Wool Roving (100 g/3.5 oz;109 m/120 yds); Main Color (MC) Cherry, 77709 - 2 balls
  • Size 6 mm (U.S. 10) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Cable needle
  • Cowl pattern cable chart

 

Gauge:

15 sts and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stockinette stitch

 

Measurements:

Approx 11 x 24 ins [28 x 61 cm]

 

Abbreviations:

Alt = alternate(ing)
Approx = approximately
Beg = beginning
K = knit
P = purl
pat = pattern
rep = repeat
RS = right side
st(s) = stitch(es)

C4B (Cable 4 Back):
Slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and leave at back of work.
Knit next 2 stitches from left-hand needle, skipping stitches on cable needle.
Knit 2 stitches from cable needle. Cable C4B is complete.

C4F (Cable 4 Front):
Slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work.
Working behind cable needle, knit next 2 stitches from left-hand needle.
Knit 2 stitches from cable needle. Cable C4F is complete.

T4B (Twist 4 Back):
Slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and leave at back of work.
Knit next 2 stitches from left-hand needle, skipping stitches on cable needle.
Purl 2 stitches from cable needle. Twist T4B is complete.

T4F (Twist 4 Front):
Slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and leave at front of work.
Working behind cable needle, purl next 2 stitches from left-hand needle.
Knit 2 stitches from cable needle. Twist T4F is complete.

 

Instructions:

Cast on 66 sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. P3. t4B. t4F. (P4. t4B. t4F) 4 times. P3. K2.
2nd and alt rows: K2. Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear to last 2 sts. K2.
3rd row: K2. P1. (t4B. P4. t4F) 5 times. P1. K2.
5th row: K2. P1. K2. P8. (C4B. P8) 4 times. K2. P1. K2.
7th row: K2. P1. (t4F. P4. t4B) 5 times. P1. K2.
9th row: K2. P3. t4F. t4B. (P4. t4F. t4B) 4 times. P3. K2.
11th row: K2. P5. C4F. (P8. C4F) 4 times. P5. K2.
12th row: As 2nd row.
Rep these 12 rows for pat until work from beg measures approx 24 ins [61 cm], ending with a 12th row of pat.
Cast off in pat.

Finishing:
Pin cowl to measurements. Cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry. Sew back seam.
