GAUGE:
18 sts and 24 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.
22 sts and 22 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in Star Stitch Pat

 

MEASUREMENTS: Approx 42 ins x 50 ins [106.5 x 127 cm].

PANEL A (make 2).
With pair of needles and B, cast on 57 sts.
**1st row: (RS). With B, knit.
2nd row: With B, P1. *P3tog, leaving stitches on left-hand needle. yrn. P3tog the same sts - Star made. P1.
Rep from * to end of row.
3rd row: With MC, knit.
4th row: With MC, P3. *Star. P1. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2.
Rep last 4 rows of Star Stitch Pat 3 times more.**
With MC only, work 4 rows of Star Stitch Pat 12 times.
Rep from ** to ** once. Rep 4 rows of Star Pat 12 times, substituting A for B.***
Rep from ** to *** once, then from ** to ** once more.
With B, rep 1st and 2nd rows of Star Stitch Pat. Cast off loosely.

PANEL B (make 2).
With pair of needles and B, cast on 57 sts.

FINISHING

Sew panels tog in the following sequence: B, A, B, A.
Edging: With RS facing, circular needle, and MC, beg at lower right corner of Afghan, pick up and knit 190 sts evenly along side of Afghan.
**Knit 1 row. With B, knit 2 rows. With A, knit 4 rows. Cast off knitwise.**
Rep for other side of Afghan.
With RS facing, circular needle, and MC, beg at right side edge of Afghan, pick up and knit 160 sts evenly across top edge of Afghan. Work from ** to ** as given for side edging.
Rep for bottom edge.
