Gobble Gobble: 30 Thanksgiving Ideas for a Memorable Holiday

By: Julie DaMario, Editor,

Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. Not only does it combine my two favorite things (food and football), but every seven years either my mom’s or my birthday is the same date. I equate Thanksgiving with so much more than just turkey. It’s about being with my family and celebrating the joy that we bring one another.

For my family, Thanksgiving has always been about absolute comfort. If you feel like taking off your belt at the dinner table, go for it. If you just can’t seem to get out of those sweats – leave them on. There’s no judgment at the dinner table. Thanksgiving is about being grateful for things that bring us comfort.

The key to having a cozy, comfortable Thanksgiving is all about the homey touches. A DIY Thanksgiving is always so much better and more memorable than one that is store bought. Snuggling up with a handmade knit afghan is a lot cozier than one from Crate & Barrel. It’s so much more fun to set the table with the placemats you made with that easy knitting pattern than the ones you bought on sale. Memories are made from the traditions you create and the things you pass down. There are so many ways to pull off a rustic, beautiful Thanksgiving with simple knitting patterns you’ll cherish for years.

It’s easier than ever to have a DIY holiday. There are so many easy decorating ideas for thanksgiving centerpieces, table top decorations, vintage knitting patterns, and cozy knit home décor crafts. To make it easier, we’ve compiled a list of 30 Thanksgiving Ideas for a Memorable Holiday.

One of the best ways to have a cozy, relaxed holiday is to make sure your TV area is warm and inviting for Thanksgiving football. That means having a nap-ready couch and a pile of cozy knit blankets for the big game. Thanksgiving football is a time honored tradition is just as important (if not more) than the annual feast, and kicking back in front of the TV with a mug of hot cider is what the holiday is all about.

We hope these patterns will inspire you to create a cozy, memorable holiday. But remember, the most important part of Thanksgiving is not about pretty napkins or rustic centerpieces – it’s about enjoying your family and being grateful for one another. Gobble, gobble!
