Knitting for Beginners: A Collection of Free Knitting Tutorials

Knitters have the tendency to oversimplify how easy it is to learn how to knit.  I am as guilty of this as anyone, and I don’t think it comes from a bad place.  We just get excited at the mere prospect of another person potentially joining the ranks of the knitting community.  The biggest half-truth that we tell newbies is that learning to knit and purl is all you have to do to learn how to knit.  While it’s true that, largely, all of the techniques in knitting are firmly based in either knitting or purling, some techniques are more difficult than others to learn.

We want all of our readers to become successful knitters, so we try to provide everyone with up-to-date, detailed tutorials.  If you’re trying to learn a new knitting stitch or technique, you’ve come to the right place.  You’ll find all of our video and articles on this page, in one convenient place.   Knitters of all skill levels will find useful information on all sorts of techniques on this page.  We are here to help you with everything from learning how to knit to figuring out the Kitchener stitch.

This is an excellent set of tutorials and should have a place in the arsenal of every knitter. The explanations are clear and simple and should help build the skills a beginner needs to complete a successful project. If you are new to knitting I suggest you pick up needles and yarn and work through the tutorials one by one until you are comfortable with the process. I usually see knitting needles, crochet hooks and sometimes skeins of yarn at my local thrift for a fraction of the cost of new items. Happy knitting
