Lengthwise Knit Lace Scarf

By: Christina Consiglio from Olives and Mermaids and Wine, oh my..

This gorgeous Lengthwise Knit Lace Scarf lives up to its name - you knit it lengthwise instead of widthwise! By using this method, you'll be able to bring out beautiful, thick stripes of lace. We recommend using a large circular knitting needle for this project to accommodate all of the stitches. Because this knit scarf pattern is knit sideways, it has an unusual construction. This lace scarf will make a great addition to your wardrobe.

Excuse my ignorance but what ply would Fingering Weight Yarn be? I am in Australia and we go by ply here. Thanks

I have a metric conversion Guide that says that "fingering" yarn is either Yarn Weight 0 or 1 and called Lace or Super Fine. Types include sock, fingering, and baby yarns as well as 10-count crochet thread. We don't seem to be using ply here in the U.S. anymore. Hope that helps.

Fingering is weight 1. Lace is weight 0. Fingering is lighter than sport weight, more in line with a "typical" sock weight yarn.

lace weight yarn is 1 ply yarn-I know this is late, but it may help someone. Happy knitting.

Printed & hope to start as soon as I finish the scarf I have started for myself. Will make a great Christmas present!

It looks just lovely! I wonder if I can pay attention this closely to the pattern and not make bazillions of mistakes? How do people pay close attention while knitting and watching TV?

Impossible! I use LOTS of stitch markers!

I try to knit and watch TV. If the project is repetitive and not 6-7 rows of different "counts" I can do it, but if it's a lacey pattern I turn a classical radio station on my computer and try to concentrate on knitting. I have made too many mistakes, and frogs to watch TV. You can start w/o it, then take a break and watch tv. Turn the TV off and go back to knitting.

I've never knit anything sideways....,but I'm willing to try it with pretty pattern!

I love knitting lengthwise. Seems to go faster and it brings out the beauty of certain patterns.

I completely agree...this was handspun yarn so the yarn was enhanced with the lengthwise knit.

I just looked at patern and I love this scarf already ! I want to knit it as it is and I need to buy yarn ! Thank you very much for bringing this scarf to my attention !

Hope this turned out well for you!!
