Women's Irish Knit Cardigan

The Women's Irish Knit Cardigan is a stunning, vintage pattern that women of any age will love. Irish knitting patterns have a special charm about them that takes you back to rolling meadows, tall cliffs, and the crisp smell of the oceanside, and this knit cardigan pattern is no exception. The panels of cables are interrupted by sections of seed stitch, which help give the pattern visual intrigue. We think this cardigan looks best in lighter colors so you can really see the lovely stitch detailing, but it would look equally as breathtaking in a tweed yarn to give it a worn-in, rustic look.

Such a classic Irish fisherman's knit. I love that its worked with the raglan sleeve, they are so comfortable. The intricate cables are nicely laid out, but it will take a knitter with some experience to make it. I read one time that the cable in fisherman knits signify the ropes used by the sailors and that each clan uses unique patterns that are not shared with others.

Beautiful sweater! Due to a birth defect I need a similar pattern with set-in sleeves. Does anyone know of such a pattern?

the gauge on the pattern indicates 13 sts = 2 inches. this doesn't seem correct for the needle and yarn. Can anyone comment?

This has been in print, as I made this same sweater probably 15 years back. Sorry I no longer have the pattern book.( printed in very early 1970's) I made complete set , which included mittens, hat, scarf, as well as, of course this beautiful original Irish Sweater pattern ( May have been in McCalls magazine) my guess around 1969.

That's a great pattern, thanks for sharing ! Check out our page http// for more cardigan designs, for men and for babies.

I have just finished this cardigan and it came out really well. I would rate it a 5 star.

Where's the Men's Irish Knit Cardigan?

I would love to be able to print this pattern. Is there anyway to do this?

Do any of you recognize the model? Hint: She's been on General Hospital for years :)

It sure looks like my niece Erin who played Siobhan McKenna Spencer on GH.

Does anyone know where I can get the book that the above sweater is from? I made a few of the sweaters that are in it and can't find it. All of them came out beautifully.

The book is from 1967 The Bernat Book ofIrish Knits. book 145 In blarney-spin yarn from Ireland itself

I made this sweater some 25 years ago, and I found no errors in the pattern book I purchased from the manufacturer. It was a fun project.

Hi nredfield, Since this pattern is from a different site, I would contact the author on their own site and see if they have a corrected pattern. Thanks!

I love this sweater but find many mistakes in the pattern, (stitch patterns do not line up, astricks are missing etc.) Is there a corrected version? n form cal

The link is working now. Needed to wait a few hours. Looks good!
