Swiss Cross Children's Blanket

"This is a very easy pattern knitted in panels. You can make a bigger blanket simply by adding more panels. You will have to know how to cross your yarns at the back of your work when starting your cross. There will also be almost 300 loose ends to work away. The panels are sewn together with mattress stitch"

I was very surprised when the designer said there will be almost 300 loose ends to work in. I don't see why that would happen. You are working up the panel of crosses so why not just leave your white yarn in the center and carry it up, at least for each of the three sections of each cross, and carry the gray yarn behind the white.

You typically cannot carry yarn when you are sewing panels together or using the intarsia method to create designs in projects, carrying the yarn up will make the seams too bulky and can alter the look of the blanket entirely while making it almost impossible to put the panels together properly. I typically suggest to my students that they darn as they go, even if they don't do all the darning doing at least some of it makes the task a little less daunting.
