Last Minute Jack O Lantern

By: Katie Startzman for DuoFiberworks

This is the cutest knit pumpkin pattern I've ever seen! This adorable Last Minute Jack O Lantern is a fantastic way to decorate for Halloween. Let's face it, our real life jack-o-lanterns are destined to become squirrel snacks. Instead of getting pumpkin seeds and gunk everywhere for a temporary decoration, try knitting this delightful felted jack-o-lantern. Aside from being able to say that you carved your own pumpkin, this felted pattern will last for years and years. You will need a small balloon and some string to help shape this pattern once it's felted.

I have never done any felting. But I am very eager to try. This looks like a great project to start with. The basic pattern is very easy to do. Then it's just the felting part that I have to learn. It can't be that hard as the directions seem very easy to follow.

Hello! You actually knit 2, KFB and repeat that all the way around, so you are increasing a total of 6 stitches over the course of the row. Hope that helps!

I think the stitch counts on this adorable felted pumpkin might be off. I cast on 18 sts, then joined in the round. Row 1: knit Row 2: knit 2, then KFB in the remaining 16 sts....that gets me 34 sts NOT THE STATED 24 sts. Please help so I can continue.

knit 2, kfb-you repeat the knit 2 also-its difficult to tell the way the pattern is written-if you follow it the way it is written exactly, you are correct, but to get the corresponding numbers on this and subsequent rows you have to repeat the knit stitches indicated on each row. I've made dozens of pumpkins and the increase should be more gradual so I suggest you repeat the knit stitches also.

This is SO cute. What I like most is that it's felted. That way, if I have some less-than-perfect stitches, they won't show in the finished product! I really want to make some of these this year!
