Grandmother's Diagonal Lace Washcloth
"This free knitted washcloth pattern brings together everything to love about hand knit washcloths. It's squishy and absorbent, extra pretty with that lovely lace inset, works well with variegated yarns, and all those little garter bumps make it extra scrubby for just the right amount of cleansing action. If you've been wanting to try knitting lace, this simple seven stitch repeat is a great way to start."

Diagonal wash or dish cloths are my go to when I want something simple and useful to knit. With the little twist of the center band of lace, this is perfect for those times. The lace here is easy to do but it makes all the difference in the way the cloth looks. Now I am thinking of other stitches to try in the center!

This is a pretty variation on the traditional diagonal wash cloth. It adds a little more interest and texture to the appearance. It would look fabulous in pastels like aqua or peach, or maybe off white or sand. I wouldn't try it in a self patterning yarn because you'd lose the stand out look of the lace in the center.

Love this pattern for its simplicity yet it looks great. I have been making the diagonal wash cloths for years but they are plain but functional. These will make great gifts with nice fancy soap to go with them.
