Totally gorgeous. I love how soft, bulky, and warm this looks.

I wonder where the designer found her needle to knit this cowl? There does not seem to be a 16 US anywhere, but not to worry - the US 17 would be the 12 mm and that would be my choice for the bulky look as I am really taken with the bulky winter warmth appearance -- one of these days I am going to sit down and design another scarf or cowl .. it is easier to let someone else do the work, but it is satisfying when one's ideas work out.

I am confused with this pattern. Is it knit on size 17 or size 16 needles? Also does it need to be knit on a circular needle? on this page is says size 17 circular needle but on the actual pattern's site it says Size 16 circular needle. I bought a size 15 needle to knit this because I couldnt find a 16. I have posted a comment on the patterns's link but I havent gotten a response...Somebody help.

i have found from experience that gauge isnt too important on things like scarves and cowls... knit on the needle you have (circulars tend to distribute the weight of the project better so it is easier to manage), and when you get to the end of the pattern see if it is as big as you want it... if not carry on and do another repeat to make it bigger. i used to panic about exact needle sizes and such, but it is possible to tweak patterns, especially ones like this =] have fun knitting and i hope this has helped!

the size 16 circs are not available here-they would be an 11mm needle-impossible to find, I've been looking for years! the pattern calls for a 10mm, but its knit straight so you could use straights if you find them-I made it using a 12mm and it worked out great! hope this helps.
