Beginner

Knitting Needle Size50 or 25 mm

Yarn Weight(6) Super Bulky/Super Chunky (4-11 stitches for 4 inches)

Gauge1 stitches, 2 rows, 3 inches. stockinette stitch

Materials:

  • RED HEART® Boutique Twilight™ - 1 ball 9959 Mercury
  • Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 25mm [US 50]
  • Yarn needle

 

Measurements: Cowl measures 8” [20.5 cm] wide x 40” [101.5 cm] circumference, unstretched.

 

Abbreviations:

cm = centimeters;

mm = millimeters;

[ ] = work directions in brackets the number of times specified.

 

Gauge: Gauge is not critical for this project.

 

Instructions

Cast on 13 stitches.

Row 1: [Knit 1, purl 1] 6 times to last stitch, knit 1.

Row 2: [Purl 1, knit 1] 6 times to last stitch, purl 1.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 40” [101.5 cm] from beginning.

Bind off.

 

FINISHING

Sew short ends together. Weave in ends.

I do like the look of this one, but I've used that yarn many times and the gauge stated on here is way off. I will use a provisional cast on because I hate sewing seams.

The super chunky yarn gives this a really interesting look and the project is so fast and easy! This would make a great gift or a quick project for a beginner. I'm getting a new coat for winter and this would be a quick way to whip up something to go with it!

love the look of this cowl as well as the quick and easy knit the pattern is simple to follow and easily remembered after the first few rows, while 13 stitches over 40 rows is a breeze. Ideal for the person who likes to see the completed project as soon as possible
