Decorating for Christmas can be a long and laborious process with tedious decorating projects. Deck the halls with wreaths of beauty using this Be Merry Easy Knit Wreath pattern, and you’ll never go back. This great DIY Christmas wreath is a beginner knitting pattern that does not require much effort for the great result. Embellished with little yarn-ball and ornament bobbles, this wreath is festive and adorable. You can pick your colors and add-ons, which makes it fit in with any decorating style. Knit and be merry!


Knitting Needle Size15 or 10 mm

Yarn Weight(7) Jumbo

Gauge6 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 8 rows = 4” [10 cm]

Finished Size18” (46 cm) in diameter

Materials List

  • RED HEART® Grande™: 3 balls 402 Foggy A
  • RED HEART® Soft®: 1 ball each 9925 Really Red B, 4601 Off White C, and 2515 Turquoise D
  • Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 15mm [US 19]
  • Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9]
  • 18” (46 cm) foam wreath form
  • 4 jingle bells
  • 3 holiday ornaments
  • Three 1½” (4 cm) foam balls
  • Two 2” (5 cm) foam balls
  • Three bamboo skewers



With A, cast on 13 sts.

  1. Row 1: *K1, P1; repeat from * to last st, K1.

  2. Repeat Row 1 until piece measures 42” (107 cm).

  3. Bind off, leaving 3-yard (2.7 m) tail for seaming.

  4. Trim:
    Change to crochet hook. With B, chain 6”
    (15 cm). Fasten off.
    With C, chain 3” (8 cm). Fasten off.
    With D, chain 6” (15 cm). Fasten off.

  5. Finishing:
    With yarn needle and long tail, seam A piece around the wreath form along the side edges. Seam top edge to bottom edge.
    Weave in all loose ends.

Yarn Balls

  1. Wrap B around one of the foam balls, wrapping until the entire ball is covered with yarn.

  2. Repeat with C and D until you have a total of five wrapped foam balls.

  3. Cut bamboo skewers down to 5” (13 cm).

  4. Push skewer completely through yarn ball, piercing the ball with the pointed end.

  5. Repeat with the four other yarn balls.

  6. Push the pointed end of the skewer into the
    wreath form to attach and secure two of
    the yarn balls. Set the other three yarn balls


  1. Securely attach one ornament to the end of each crochet chain.

  2. String 4 jingle bells onto the end opposite the ornament of one crochet chain. Place one yarn ball skewer through the center of the chain and then pierce the wreath with the skewer to secure.

  3. Secure the other two ornaments to the wreath by piercing the end of the chain opposite the ornaments with the yarn ball skewers and pushing them into the wreath.

This knit wreath pattern looks interesting. I've seen others done in stockinette stitch but I think using jumbo weight yarn in seed stitch like this gives a nicer texture. I don't think, though that the Foggy color is very festive! Or maybe I'm just more traditional and want bright, happy colors.
