Purple Knit Super Scarf

The Purple Knit Super Scarf makes a fashion statement. This gorgeous knit scarf is created with faux woven stitch and both the back and front are identical. The free knitting pattern is perfect for intermediate knitters who want to try their hand at adding pom poms and tassels to their oversized scarf. The soft lilac color is quite pleasing to the eye and looks striking against a variety of outfits. Plus, since this knitting pattern is reversible, you don't need to worry about it draping a certain way. Instead, you can just throw it on and go. The ends of the scarf are really the shining stars, because they add some visual interest you typically don't see when it comes to scarf knitting patterns.

Finishing

Weave in ends.
Make 6 pompom and tassel units as follows:

  1. Pompom (make 6):
Using largest ring on Boye® PomPom Maker, make pompom according to instructions. If you don't have a pompom maker, wrap yarn around 1.25" [3 cm] high piece of cardboard approximately 30 times. Thread yarn needle with 8" [20.5 cm] piece of yarn. Insert needle between cardboard and yarn wraps at top edge. Tie yarn tightly around all wraps. Cut wraps at opposite edge to form pompom. Shake pompom to distribute yarn evenly. Trim ends as needed.

  2. Tassel (make 6):
Wrap yarn around cardboard 15 times. Slide a 15" [40 cm] piece of yarn under the wrapped yarn and tie a knot at the top leaving long tails to attach tassel to pompom and scarf. Cut lower edge of wrapped yarn to free ends. Wind a second piece of yarn around the tassel two or three times about 1" [2.5 cm] below the top. Knot tightly. Thread tails onto yarn needle and push to inside of tassel. Trim ends to make even.
Tread tassel tails onto yarn needle and then insert into the center of the pompom to form unit.
Attach three pompom and tassel units evenly spaced onto each end of scarf. Weave in remaining tails.

Not only is it a favourite length and a great style, but the model is sporting one of my favourite styles of hat -- how can I resist? I love the length and I love the width. It would add so much to an outfit, even warmth. Thinking of knitting it in charcoal to go with a hat I added to the collection recently (love end of winter sales), and in a deep blue for a friend for next winter... the pom poms and tassles together add a delightful flair

This is amazingly fun. I've seen tassels and I've seen poms but never the two together in such an adorable way. I might size this down a little bit and make it for a couple little girls who are very special to me. It's adorable!

This is a great super scarf pattern! I was immediately struck by the pompoms and tassels on the bottom - what a stylish embellishment. The lilac color is pretty but I'm sure it would look good in any solid color. You could also try contrasting or complimentary color pompoms and tassels on the ends.

Pom-poms AND tassels!!!??? That's an overdose of awesomeness and going right onto a tote bag project I am currently working on. Thanks for the great idea.
