5 Hour Baby Sweater
5 Hour Baby Sweater

"This sweet little baby sweater makes a cute gift and it really can be completed in 5 hours (yes, I timed it!). This pattern has been passed along in different forms for many years and I've added some of my own updates to simplify it, as well as including buttonholes in the yoke so buttons can be added for a nice finishing touch. The pattern uses medium weight (4) yarn which helps it knit up quickly too. The finished sweater is an approximate 6 month size."

want pattern

I have made the 5-hour baby sweater and enjoyed making it plus it looks great. Are there patterns for matching booties and cap for a boy on #7 needles? Thanks! Ellen

I have some cotton yarn medium weight 4, would it work for the baby sweater?

I made the 5 Hour Knit Baby Sweater for "Angel Snugs" (knitting for cancer children) and it turned out great. THANK YOU for sharing the pattern

I want to make this sweater need a pattern book

I made this sweater 50years ago for my first. It was an enjoyment to make.

I have followed the directions on line 6 of the pattern and keep winding up with 60 stitches not 47. What am I doing wrong?

have you gotten a reply to this? I have the same problem

You are doing too many increases, this row should be done- K3, inc 1, k1, to the last 4 stitches, so there will be 13 increase in the body, inc 1, k1, then a final increase in the last 4 stitches, so you start with 33 stitches, make 13 increases in the body plus one on the end, so your total increases for this row is 14 stitches, if you have more then this, and you do, that's why you are coming out with 60 stitches, I think you may be increasing every stitch until the last stitch, which would account for the 30 increased stitches you are getting, there is only 1 increase in the end border.

Just wondering... could you put the sleeves on the stitch holders and work way around the body, finishing it and then do the sleeves after? It seems that would eliminating a lot of the cutting and reattaching the yarn.

No, that will not work with this pattern, since the top of the sleeve is actually part of the yoke. the sweater is knit in one piece, you are only cutting and reattaching the yarn twice, so you would not be eliminating anything. Hope this helps, happy knitting.

Ideal for baby's first weeks - and for coming home the sort of design that Mom puts away in tissue when it is no longer big enough to be worn and keeps for the precious memories a delightful design and special to knit

Tried this craft? What did you think?

Im a newbie knitter and telling me Medium weight is just not useful ....what does that really mean???IS it 8 ply 10 ply??? Going out in a winter storm ply??? Please try and consider people who really don't have the experience to judge by instinct when going to the store to buy wool...

Hello Member 4513163, the designer used Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn brand in Tweed Pastels to knit this sweater. It is a worsted, 10 ply yarn. Hope this helps! -Editors of AllFreeKnitting

Is this the same as double knitting yarn in the uk please?

Hi kay1957, the yarn used in this pattern is worsted/aran weight (not double knitting/DK). Hope this helps! -Editors of AllFreeKnitting
