How to Knit the Ridge Stitch

The ridge stitch is a great beginner stitch for knitters who want to try their hand at something a little more decorative. Essentially this stitch is like a horizontal version of the rib stitch, but it's even easier to work because each row is either entirely knit or entirely purled. There's no switching back and forth and moving the yarn from one side of the needle to the other, like you have with ribbing.

It's the kind of stitch that would look cool and unexpected on a sweater sleeve, or give a room a unique flair when used as a rug. Even those just beginning knitting can manage this cool, out-of-the-box ridge stitch, as it is made up of only knits and purls, so you absolutely have to try it out!
