Yarn Weight(1) Super Fine (27-32 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

  • Wisdom Yarns Poems Sock (75% superwash wool, 25% nylon; 100g/459 yds)  968 Pumpkin Patch – 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 4) balls
  • US Size 3 (3.25 mm) straight or size needed to obtain gauge
  • US Size 2 (2.75 mm) straight needles
  • Tapestry needle
  • One 1” button

 


Gauge: 22 sts x 44 rows = 4” in garter st using larger ndls , 28 sts x 38 rows = 4” in 2x2 ribbing using smaller ndls

 


Measurements:

  • Sizes: Extra Small (Small, Medium, Large, 1X, 2X), To fit Waist 28 (30½, 34, 38, 42, 46)”,
  • Waist: 22¼ (24, 26¾, 29¾, 33, 36)” Note: Waistband is very stretchy

 


Instructions:


This skirt is made in 8 panels: 4 straight panels and 4 bias panels. The straight panels go in the center of the skirt and the bias panels go on the sides. The panels are worked from the bottom up, are wider at the bottom/hem and are decreased to be a little less wide at the top/waist.

Straight Panel (make 4)
With larger ndls, cast on 26 (28, 30, 32, 34, 38) sts. Work in garter stitch (knit every row) until Panel meas 5 (5, 5½, 5½, 6, 6)” from cast-on edge.
Dec row (RS): K1, k2tog, knit to last 3 sts, ssk, k1 – 2 sts dec’d. Work in garter st until Panel meas 10 (10. 10½, 10½, 11, 11)”, ending with WS row. Rep Dec row. Work in garter st until Panel meas 15 (15, 15½, 15½, 16, 16)”, ending with WS row. Rep Dec row – 20 (22, 24, 26, 28, 32) sts rem. Work in garter st until Panel meas 20 (20, 20½, 20½, 21, 21)”. Bind off all sts.
 

Bias Panel (make 4)
With larger ndls, cast on 2 sts. Knit 1 row.
 

Increase Section
Inc row 1 (RS): [Kfb] twice – 4 sts.
Next row and all WS rows: Knit.
Inc row 2 (RS): K1, m1, knit to last st, m1, k1 – 2 sts inc’d. Rep Inc row 2 every RS row, 10 (11, 12, 13, 14, 16) more times – 26 (28, 30, 32, 34, 38) sts.
 

Establish Bias Pattern
Next row: K1, m1, knit to last 3 sts, ssk, k1.
Next row: Knit. Rep these 2 rows until Panel meas 5” from beg of Bias Patt section.
Dec row: K1, m1, knit to last 4 sts, sssk, k1 – 1 st dec’d. Continuing in Bias Pattern, rep Dec row every 5”, 2 more times – 20 (22, 24, 26, 28, 32) sts rem. Work even in patt until Panel meas 20 (20, 20½, 20½, 21, 21)”, ending with WS row.

Decrease Section
Dec row (RS): K1, k2tog, knit to last 3 sts, ssk, k1 – 2 sts dec’d.
Next rowL Knit. Rep Dec row every RS row until 4 sts rem.
Next row (RS): [K2tog] twice. Bind off rem 2 sts.


Finishing

Back
Lay out 2 Straight Panels side by side so narrower ends are at the top. Sew Panels together. Place a Bias Panel on each side of the Straight Panels. Sew the Bias Panels to the Straight Panels.

Front
Sew remaining 4 Panels together for Front in the same way as Back. Sew Front and Back Sections together.

Waistband
Beg at top of Left Front, pick up and knit 78 (84, 94, 104, 116, 126) sts along Front of Skirt, pick up and knit 78 (84, 94, 104, 116, 126) sts along Back of Skirt, cast on 12 sts for Button tab – 168 (180, 200, 220, 244, 264) sts.
Row 1 (WS): * P2, k2; rep from * to end. Rep this row until Waistband meas 1”, ending with WS row.
Buttonhole row (RS): Work in patt to last 8 sts, bind off 2 sts, work in patt to end.
Next row: Work in patt to bound-off sts, cast on 2 sts over gap, work in patt to end. Cont in patt until Waistband meas 2”, ending with WS row. Bind off all sts in patt. Sew Button to Waistband opposite buttonhole. Weave in ends.
