Worn with a skirt or pants, over shirt or turtleneck, this would be ideal -- depending on the yarn (solid or variegated) it could be casual and fun to wear or dressy and more sophisticated

In the weaving world, this type of tunic used to be called a tabard. Its got simple lines and a long history in folk clothing. Knights also used to wear the tabard over their armor with an embroidered coat of arms to declare their allegiance. This simple tabard would be a great addition to a RennFaire costume especially if knit of a rustic homespun fiber. Looks like a lot of fun to me and it could be worn by a man or a woman.
