Love the name of the blog that this pattern is from. Balls to the Walls Knits are a great name. These are pretty plain mittens except they have a few notable features added to them. The cuffs help keep your wrists warmer and have a tapered design. I love their clean lines.

What is M1R and SSK mean in the pattern for the mittens?

Hi, Dpschreiber! M1R means "make 1 right" and SSK means "slip, slip, knit." For more help with knitting lingo and abbreviations, check out our complete guide to kitting terms here: https://www.allfreeknitting.com/Tips-for-Knitting/Knitting-Terms-Explained Hope this helps :)

Tried this craft? What did you think?

I've never knitted mittens and these look nice and easy and not too intimidating to try for the first time. I also like that the needles are bigger than usual for mittens.
