Downton Hat

By:

Take a spin back through time with knit hat patterns that were created during another era. This classically designed Downton Hat is based off of a World War I baby hat design. Thankfully for us, this hat pattern provides several different sizes, including one for baby and one for adults. Now no matter what your age, you can have fun donning a vintage design inspired by the 1900s.

Is the top part of the hat supposed to be a square? When I calculate the row gauge, it seems to be a rectangle (56 rows for the Adult 1 size) I am using the Sublime yarn that the model hat was knitted in. My hat measures 4" x 5.6".

Hi michaeljthill2133737, We suggest contacting the designer of the Downton Hat, Annie Cholewa. You'll find her contact information by clicking through to the pattern information on her blog. -Editors of AllFreeKnitting

I enjoyed watching the video. I printed the pattern first and watched the video so now I know how the pattern goes.

Excellent hat, made it for my grand daughter in size child. She's 1 yr. old, but has a large head. Probably could have made size baby. I added a rose and two leaves on the brim and love it! Thanks so much.

Managed to access and print the pattern without any problems whatsoever. Thank you so much for sharing it. I can't wait to knit it up!

To get pattern to Abbey Hat use this website: www.knitsofacto.blogspot.com it will bring you to the website where you can download pattern. Good luck have fun.

I would love to make this but I get a 404-File not found error message. So sad.

I have downloaded this pattern a few weeks ago. I tried again today and it downloads. You need to have adobe reader in order to see it. So find a free adobe reader program and load it to your computer so you will be able to see it and print.

As with everyone else can't open the pattern. What's the point of putting on a pattern when you cannot access it!!!

Did they take it down? I get an error message: WordPress file not found. Very disappointed, wanted to make this for a friend.

Got the same error message today.

cant down load pattren

I'm adding my note re not being able to open this pattern to the earlier comments from those who have also had a problem. Is there a solution? Thanks!

Which Downton Abbey Cast Member wore this hat?

love this, and I'm a Downton Abbey fan which makes it even better :)

I am unable to open this pattern. I am very interested in making this hat and wonder if there is any other way to get this pattern. Thanks.

Very disappointed that pattern was not available. What happened?

could i possibly get this pattern in loom knit ? i've tried my hand at knitting with needles, just can't do it , but i do loom knit.

Love the hat! My mother would call it "smart". Can someone explain what is meant by "KO" and "PO" in the pattern instructions? Thank you.

Knit zero, purl zero. Love the hat also

I am trying to open the pattern and there is no response please help

How do I get this pattern?

could i possibly get this pattern in crochet? i've tried my hand at knitting, just can't do it , but i do crochet.

I made this hat and it is adorable. Just follow the directions and you will see how it all works out. I used 5 double point needles for the 'circular' part, instead of a circular needle. 4 needles were used (one for each side of the square crown) and the fifth needle (which was always rotating) I used in my right hand to knit. I am an experienced knitter, but this hat is not hard to make.

For some reason the pattern for the Downton Abbey Hat will NOT come through so I could print it out.

double lined does seem a bit more than easy

I believe you're referring to the sections where you see something like this: P0(2,0,2,0) The P0 part is saying purl 0 stitches (in the case of the smallest pattern size).

I am a beginning knitter and I don't see how this pattern can be rated EASY. Yeah, what does PO mean?

What does PO mean?

PO means Pass Over. U tube is a great resource for knitting. Put you request into U tube and you can see the stitch demonstrated. Good Luck

Please comment if you make this hat. and let us know how easy/hard it is to assemble. I love the look.

The pattern isn't terribly clear on how it gets from straight needle rectangle to a round hat... it's a mystery as to how it all comes together.

You knit the crown as a rectangle then pick up stitches along the three sides of that rectangle that are not the current live working side. You join those in the round and work the sides and brim of the hat in the round. It looks pretty easy; I may have to try it!
