I am looking for a vintage pattern that was sold as a kit in the 1950's. You could make either a hat or mittens with the provided yarn. The hat was a ski-type hat with flaps and ties. A cord was attached to the center of the top, and had a pompom on the end. The had was white with a colored stripe around the center about an inch or so wide. There was a single row of white in the center of the stripe. There were maybe 4 cables running vertically down the sides of the hat. The stitch was mainly stockinette. The earflaps were white stockinette stitch, with none of the cable parts going into them. The mittens were white stockinette with the colored stripe going around about in the center of the palm area and a cable going vertically along the center of the back. This was my first knitting project. I made several. I was learning to knit at the same time I was learning to ski in the northern lower peninsula of Michigan. Many years later I happened to see a documentary about the early days of skiing in N. Michigan. It showed kids taking lessons and I saw more than one wearing those hats! I would love to have the pattern. Anybody have it to share? Thanks!
