The zig-zag pattern is really pretty. I think I might prefer a smaller border so more of the cowl is the zig-zag pattern. This should be easy to do by reducing the number of those rows. Instead of 6 garter rows, then 4 knit rows, then 6 garter rows, I might try 4 garter rows, 4 knit rows and 4 garter rows. That would reduce the border on either side by 4 rows. With or without this change, it is a lovely pattern with good clear instructions that are easy to follow.

I love these pattern, because of its simplicity and the outlook of the wave that the lace stich creates, I think maybe it can also work like a warmer given the fact that the pattern is lay out on a 28 round x 8 stich repeat, and the rest its basic garter stich, maybe Ill try it and see if it works , but Im definitely making these as a treat for myself, just not in black maybe a pearl color or a ombre pink.

Simple and elgant says it for this Bittersweet cowl with a lacy pattern surrounded by rows of garter stitch that would prevent the cowl from curling at the ends. The pattern will look great in any color so I think I am going to make it in my favorite color - teal blue!

There appears to be errors in the pattern as written-it states to work 6 rounds garter stitch, garter stitch is all knit, then its says to knit 6 rounds, then to garter stitch 6 rounds beginning with a purl row-if its all knit, how are they getting a purl row? I'm wondering if where it says to garter stitch, if it is in fact stocking stitch? Very confusing!

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but when working in the round knitting every row creates stockinette stitch. To get garter stitch alternate knit and purl rows.

I've made this beautiful cowl twice and it is wonderful. I've just starting knitting just a couple of months ago, and this pattern helped me feel comfortable reading a chart, following a pattern, and adding something lovely to my wardrobe. Many of the ladies at my crochet/knitting group have asked for the pattern. I'll probable make a few more!

The symbols are T's and O's. T's leaning to the right mean knit 2 together. T's leaning to the left mean init 2 together into back of loop. O's mean yarn over. Hope this may help you.
